With a Samsung dishwasher not draining, there may be a problem with your sink’s drain hose. Whether that be a kink, a bend, or a clog or blockage created by food or other debris. To check if your drain hose is causing the draining problem, follow these steps.
1. Check the Connection from Your Dishwasher to the Sink
By checking the connection running from your sink to your dishwasher, first, find the drainage hose and check down the drain to see if there are any visible blockages. If you are also using a garbage disposal, make sure there is no food or waste clogging it up and contributing to the problem.
Note: If your dishwasher or garbage disposal was recently installed, make sure that the disposal cap is removed from the appliances.
2. Inspect the Drain Hose
One of the most common reasons for a Samsung dishwasher not draining is because of the drain hose being bent or kinked. This can be caused during installation if the dishwasher is placed on top of the drain hose, making it bend resulting in slow drainage or no drainage at all.
Another possible reason a dishwasher is not draining is that there is no “high loop”, or an air gap that aids in draining. Without an air gap or with a kinked hose, water may backflow into the dishwasher instead of draining as it should. To prevent this, make sure that the drain hose is installed per the manual for your dishwasher.
3. Check That the Sink is Draining
To make sure that the sink is working fine with the drainpipe, run water from the sink for around 30 seconds to verify that it is draining. If the water in the sink is not draining, it is recommended to call a plumber.
4. Clean the Dishwater Components
If there is still a draining problem, a problem may be found inside the dishwasher. Some models of dishwashers have removable parts found in the filter, the drain, and the sump. Cleaning the parts will not only potentially relieve the draining problems but also help with odor issues. Filters, if removable, can be rinsed under water or can be lightly scrubbed.
The drain, once the filter is removed, should be accessible to remove more visible food or waste. The sump is at the bottom of the drain and once the drain is cleaned, you should be able to view any visible debris found in the sump. If there are hard-to-reach spots, a straightened wire clothes hanger can be of use.
Features of Samsung Dishwashers
There are new and improved features found in Samsung dishwashers. Some are subtle and others are very worthwhile.
Flexible Third Rack
A flexible third rack can hold utensils and other dishes. Its slim design makes it easy to slide in smaller dishes that may have taken up useful space before.
Whisper Quiet Cleaning Cycles
Samsung dishwashers, and most modern-day dishwashers, offer quiet cleaning cycles, as low as 40 decibels, which is as quiet as a library!
Auto Releasing Dry
The Auto Releasing Dry feature allows the door to open for the last couple of minutes of your dishwasher cycle. It also allows for the temperature to steadily come to room temperature and allows for a better dry.
Specialized Stream Jets
Samsung dishwashers include multiple wash arms that create a continuous rotating spray. These wash arms blast water at a high pressure which cleans the dirtiest dishes with no need to rewash.
Price Ranges
Samsung dishwasher prices can range anywhere from $500 to $1,000 on the manufacturer’s website. On the cheaper end of the scale, inexpensive dishwashers offer a digital control touch, a quiet 55-decibel cycle noise level, and offers a digital leaking sensor, which is a safety measure that can identify a leak and stop the water before it can escape.
On the opposite end of the scale, an $899 Samsung dishwasher offers a very quiet cleaning cycle, at 39 decibels, AutoRelease™ Drying, Wi-Fi connectivity, and a flexible 3rd rack. So, there is no such thing as a bad deal when it comes to purchasing a Samsung dishwasher. Below are some of the most impressive dishwashers on the market, both Samsung and other big brands.
Top Rated Dishwashers
A dishwasher typically lasts 10 years and requires repairs within that time frame. With an aged Samsung dishwasher not draining, it may be worth getting a new dishwasher instead of continuing repairs on the older one. Faulty parts can also cause a lot of headaches and a new dishwasher can help prevent unnecessary stress.
Modern dishwashers have many new and high-end functions, like a flexible 3rd rack and ultra-quiet cycles. Today’s dishwashers are easy to install and can create a new timeless look in your kitchen with fingerprint-resistant finishes. If you are ready to replace your dishwasher, here are some great models below, from both Samsung and other popular brands.
